Since the internet was introduced to us, we were able to give ‘surfing’ another meaning. We were able to express ourselves on youtube. To be discovered for our dreams or to express a certain message. However, despite the fact we have the most amazing resources at our fingertips. It seems frivolous issues will always win the race from the most meaningful. When it comes to talking with other people on memorable things to share, were more likely to share outlandish news. We’re more likely to share the joke or tell the funny random thing we saw. Think about it. Think about how much publicity was given to a girl who was singing about a certain day of the week? Or a cat (I admit was cute) making it’s way on a football match? What about the charities and NGO’s in our world, which are all there to serve an important message?
When I travel to university in the morning, I see the most patient and dedicated people sparing their time hoping to collect as many donations as possible at the train/tube stations. I look them and say to myself: my heart salutes you. My heart salutes those who have been standing there for hours in the cold. While I have been indoor, thinking about the warmth. My heart salutes you when your able to convey the most idyllic smile, that extinguishes some of my worries. Your amazing: everyone one of you volunteers. You care about a cause and you’re not shy or apathetic to sweep the cause under the rug. Others do it. And right about now, that rug has a huge bump!
So I hope this post means something to someone. I’ve become an ambassador for a cause I feel so passionate about. It’s called Peace One Day. It was brought about by a film director, Jeremy Gilley who wanted to establish a day for peace. The day was fully established by the U.N’s approval in 2001. Its message is universal. The aim for peace day this year in 2012, is for it to be a day of ceasefire and the largest reduction of violence globally. That’s why it matters to me. The term ‘peace’, doesn’t have to mean Woodstock hippies, donning tye die attire and wearing necklaces with the CND symbol. No. Nor does it have to be associated with the t1 campervan (my dream car btw). Peace is a universal message. It can mean so many different things to different people. Think about our language. Jews and Muslims have greetings of peace, which are Shalom (Hebrew) and Salaam (Arabic). It seems ironic if I mention this today, especailly since hostility associated with these two faiths in our current media. The point is: peace is present everywhere. It can be a smile. It can be a handshake. Think about how diverse we are and how peace has a huge significance in our lives. This is what Peace One Day strives to inform. This is why there are the most amazing, dedicated Peace One Day staff working so hard every day to promote this organisation. It’s because we need peace badly. However, without our own efforts, of telling friends or sharing links of organisations: it’s very difficult for a message to spread.
To know the real essence of what Peace One Day is about, watch this video. It’s one of the most inspiring videos. It will change your life.Im that adamant. To prevent my long speech, and believe me: I can talk for England if needs be. I will post this unebeliavably moving video. This video will speak to the hearts of every person of the human race. Just open your heart. I know. That was probably one of the most cheesy phrases, but what can I do! I really want you guys to watch this video. Its 5 minutes. Before you say ’5 minutes? Im very busy’. Think about the many times you have spent time with your long lost friend, procrastination (we’ve all been there). These 5 minutes could be the most significant thing you have heard today. Mark my words.
